4th Hockey Star of the Week.. RICK NASH!

My final hockey star of the week would have to be the Columbus Blue Jackets right-winger, Rick Nash!

After starting off the season very slow with only four points in his first nine games, it was nice to see this week that Nash has come alive and is leading the Blue Jackets on a charge up the Western Conference standings. Last week, on a California road swing, Nash scored six of the seven goals that the Blue Jackets had, and also, two of them were game winners! The Blue Jackets won 3 games straight, and it marked the first time in franchise history the Blue Jackets have swept a three-game road swing through California. Nash also got a lot of shots on net, on the 20th, Nash had 8 shots against the San Hose Sharks, and the Blue Jackets won 3-0. Rick Nash is making a great impact on the Blue Jackets, and is helping out his team a lot with their standings. Nash scored many goals, and had many shots on net this week, and it shows that he is working very hard and is playing the game to his true potential. It was also nice to see this after his slow start to the season. This is why I think Rich Nash deserved this star of the week. Good job Nash!

3rd Hockey Star of the Week... CAREY PRICE!

For this weeks hockey star, i chose the Montreal Canadians goalie, Carey Price.  Price came in to this season with tons of pressure on him to do well, because in the pre-season, he got booed by his very own Montreal Canadian fans for not doing well. He let in 4 out of 9 shots against the Boston Bruins in their first pre-season game. The Canadian fans liked their old goalie better, and thought that price was not a good goalie, and was going to bring the Canadians down. Price knew had to really step up his game for this hockey season in order to win over the fans of the Montreal Canadians as well as help out the team. This season, he has showed all his true talent, and is playing very well. Price is making lots of great saves and just recently got his second shutout of the season against the Canucks. Price is playing really well, and has definitely helped the Montreal Canadians earn their excellent ranking for the Eastern Conference! Price has pleased many Canadian fans, and I am proud that he was able to make such great goals even with all the pressure on him from the pre-season. This is why Carey Price is my hockey star of the week!!

2nd Hockey Star of the Week.. Steve Stamkos!

Steve Stamkos was the first overall NHL draft pick in 2006. He grew up in Unionville Ontario, and played for the Markham Waxers before the NHL.

Stamkos is coming off a 50 goal scoring season in 2009, which is great because the Tampa Bay Lighting was not a strong team. This year, he is off to a great start, and now leads the NHL in points! He currently has 19 points and 9 goals, thus making him my hockey star of the week! Not only is Stamkos playing well, but his team has a 7-2-1 start to the season and is now leading the standings for the eastern conference.
Not many people anticipated Tampa Bay Lightning having such a strong start to the season, especially after the disappointing year in 2009. They could be doing better due to their new General Manager, Steve Yzerman. Yzerman is a legend from the Detroit Red Wings and Team Canada. He recognized the raw talent on the Lightning team, and so he came on over the summer.
Steve Stamkos is my player of the week because he holds the most points, and I believe that he contributed a lot to Tampa Bay Lightnings big team turnaround! I also like Stamkos because he is a young star, and is from the GTA!
